Defining The Process
A Worksheet & Guide For Delegating Tasks
When you're thinking about delegating tasks for remote work, it's crucial to figure out which jobs absolutely require your personal touch and which can be passed on to others. Look for tasks that can be handled from a distance, are fairly straightforward, and have clear objectives.
This can be especially challenging for CEOs and creative entrepreneurs who are always on the move.
That's why I've put together a workbook to help you nail down the specifics, resources, and deadlines for each job.
Set Clear Expectations
Good communication is the key to successful remote delegation. If you want the job done just right, you've got to be clear about the tasks, deadlines, and any special instructions. The workbook can jog your memory and make sure you've covered all the bases. Another handy way to document your process is by recording your screen.
Anticipating Common Issues
Think about any typical problems that might pop up during the task. Why do they happen, and how can they be resolved? Sometimes, we have our own way of handling these issues, but we don't always share that when we delegate. It's essential to ensure that the person you're delegating to knows what to do if things go south. For example, do you usually double-check figures? What's the protocol if they're not correct?
Clear Channels for Communication
Make sure your assistant knows how and when to get in touch. How can they reach out with questions or concerns? Do you have a feedback process in place? How should they submit their work? Are there specific deadlines or a routine for updates? By personally addressing these questions, you'll spark additional ideas and enhance the level of detail within the worksheet. This, in turn, equips you to provide your assistant with an exceptional guide, setting the stage for a success.
