Organizing and Standardizing E-Commerce Listings

An e-commerce business needed to refine their inventory to achieve a more cohesive and professional online presence. This included organizing their product listings, ensuring all items were visually represented, and creating consistent naming and descriptions to enhance customer experience and ease of management

Project Goals

  • Inventory Reconciliation: Identify which items from a supplier’s catalog were listed on the client’s website versus those not listed.

  • Image Management: Ensure each product on the website had a high-resolution, royalty-free image available.

  • Consistency in Naming and Descriptions: Standardize product names and descriptions to present a uniform look and simplify updates.

Solution Process

  • Inventory Export and Comparison:

    • Exported a CSV file of the website’s inventory and created a separate spreadsheet with the supplier’s catalog.

    • Compared these lists to determine which items were listed on the website and which were missing.

  • Photo Sourcing and Organization:

    • Checked each item for an existing royalty-free photo, noting those without images.

    • Downloaded high-resolution images for products missing visuals to ensure all items were represented.

    • Renamed images to match product names, creating an organized system for quick identification and upload.

  • Standardizing Product Names and Descriptions:

    • Edited the names of 485 inventory items with a consistent format to help customers find products easier.

    • Reviewed and updated product descriptions for clarity and consistency, ensuring customers received clear and detailed information across the site.
